Brest v Bayer Leverkusen: Prediction for Match Between Surprise Pace-setters in Champions League

Only a few people would have guessed a Champions League match between Brest and Bayer Leverkusen would be the top-of-the-table clash yet, here we are about to witness two sides go at it in Europe’s top club competition.

Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen will be without Victor Boniface after the Nigerian striker survived a car crash hours after scoring the match-winner against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga over the weekend.

While last season’s Europa League finalists still have enough firepower in the absence of Boniface, they face a disciplined Brest side that enters every game with much focus on getting a positive result, regardless of the opponent’s might.

The French side may be debutants in the Champions League, but crucial wins in the new format of the competition against Sturm Graz and RB Salzburg have handed them an ideal start to the campaign.

Getting another positive result against a Leverkusen side that will pose a stern test to their credentials will go a long way to boost Brest’s quest of making the next phase of the Champions League.

We believe this game will end in a draw. Every point matters at this stage of the competition and Brest have shown they are disciplined enough to get a result against a bigger team. For Leverkusen, Boniface’s absence will be key.
