2024 NBA champions, Boston Celtics, have acquired Anfernee Simons from Portland Trail Blazers in a trade which sees two-time All-Star Jrue Holiday go the other way in what would be a return to Portland for him.

35-year-old Holiday previously landed in Portland from Milwaukee Bucks as part of a trade that saw Damian Lillard join the Bucks in 2023, with the Trail Blazers then sending Holiday to the Celtics in exchange for two first round picks.

Holiday, who will earn $32.4 million next season, is owed a total of approximately $72 million in 2026-27 and 2027-28, after which his four-year, $134.4 million contract that he signed with the Celtics in April 2024 expires.

Meanwhile, according to ESPN, Simons joins Celtics on an expiring contract at Portland, in a deal which would save the Celtics around $40 million in luxury tax payments next season.

The Celtics are also said to be in active talks to make more trades and have moved for the 26-year-old in view of Jayson Tatum likely missing the 2025-26 season as he recovers from a torn achilles.
