Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson Becker has withdrawn from Brazil’s squad to face Argentina in a FIFA World Cup qualifying encounter after suffering a concussion.
The Reds’ number one choice between the sticks was taken off during the second half of Brazil’s 2-1 win against Colombia after a clash of heads with opposition defender, Davinson Sanchez.
Alisson has subsequently pulled out of the Selecao’s crucial qualifying fixture against arch-rivals, Argentina, and will return to England to undergo further tests at Merseyside.
“Alisson Becker has departed the Brazil national team set-up and will return to Liverpool,” a statement from the Premier League table-toppers revealed. “The goalkeeper was forced off in the second half of his nation’s World Cup qualifier with Colombia in the early hours of Friday following a collision.”
The statement confirms the 32-year-old will undergo tests to reveal the full extent of his injury. “Alisson is travelling back to Merseyside and will undergo assessment from the Reds’ medical staff.”
Liverpool will soon discover the full extent of Alisson’s injury and coach Arne Slot will hope to have him available for the Merseyside derby against Everton on April 2nd.
