Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur suffered a neck injury while trying to head the ball unchallenged in the sixth minute of the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg clash against Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Bentancur fell to the pitch after trying to get the ball from a corner-kick, leading to a medical team giving him treatment for 10 minutes – including giving him oxygen – before he was eventually taken off on a stretcher.
The club would later confirm during the course of the second half that the 27-year-old is conscious, talking with medical staff and will be taken to the hospital for more checks following the freak injury in the match.
Spurs went on to beat Liverpool 1-0 thanks to a Lucas Bergvall goal in the 86th minute.
