Barcelona Fall to Leganes, Sweat over Lamine Yamal’s Injury

Leganes have made sure the La Liga title race is a close one at the moment after the Madrid-based club secured a shock 1-0 win over Barcelona on Sunday night.

The result condemns Barcelona to a third loss in their last six La Liga matches, with the league leaders winning just one match during that run and see their once-healthy advantage at the top disappear.

Sergio Gonzalez’s goal after four minutes was enough to seal a big result that affects both ends of the table – Leganes move four points clear of the relegation zone while Barcelona now leads the league by virtue of goal difference from Atletico Madrid, with Real Madrid only a point behind in third place.

Both Madrid clubs also have a game in hand, which will see Barça drop to third if they both win those games. Coupled with Lamine Yamal being forced out of the game with an ankle injury, there’s cause for concern among Hansi Flick’s squad.

Yamal presented the Golden Boy trophy to the home crowd ahead of the encounter, but picked up an ankle injury early in the first half. The teenage sensation battled through it before being substituted in the second half, as the club await test results to see the extent of his new injury.

The 19-year-old, who also won the Kopa Trophy at the Ballon d’Or, only returned from injury.
