Barcelona Consider Moving El Clasico Outside Spain Amid Camp Nou Uncertainty

Uncertainty over the readiness of Camp Nou for the El Clasico against Real Madrid has made Barcelona to begin working out a venue for home games for the rest of this season.

The La Liga giants currently play their home games at the Lluis Companys stadium but their agreement to use the facility runs out on March 31, 2025.

Barca are considering playing the next El Clasico in a major European stadium outside of Spain as a result, but would need to have the validation of La Liga and the Spanish football federation (RFEF).

Beyond the commitment they must make in the Champions League when they have to inform UEFA where they will play the knockout rounds, they are also looking ahead to the rest of other competitions.

Without yet knowing when work at the Camp Nou will be completed, once their concession for the Olympic Stadium Lluis Companys expires at the end of March, they will have to return to the Camp Nou or to another temporary destination.

In case the Camp Nou is not ready, Barca would consider, as a ‘plan B’, to find another European stadium outside Spain that could host the El Clasico in May.

However, this is not the priority for now as the club is trying to speed up construction to reach at least 60% capacity, which would see around 62,000 seats available for the match.
