World number one Aryna Sabalenka claimed her third Madrid Open title with a straight sets victory over American Coco Gauff in the Final on Saturday.

The top seed began well and won 17 points in a row to take the first set, before Gauff mounted a comeback in the second as she recovered from 3-0 down to make it 3-3.

But the American fourth seed soon raced to a 5-3 lead in the second set, before then saving six breakpoints to disrupt Sabalenka’s comeback after the Belarusian had made it 5-5.

In the ensuing tie-break, it was the 26 year-old who came through as Gauff double faulted to win 6-3, 7-6 as she landed the trophy.

Sabalenka, who is featuring in her sixth Final of the 2025 season, has now added the Madrid Open title to her wins in Brisbane and Miami.

She joins Petra Kvitova (2011, 2015, 2018) as the only players to have won the Madrid Open crown three times. Her previous wins in Madrid came in 2021 and 2023 and she was runner-up to Iga Swiatek in 2024.
