The Premier League title race is still taking shape but Arsenal are losing ground in it after just 10 matches in the Premier League season, following a 1-0 loss to Newcastle United at St. James Park in Saturday’s early kick-off.
Mikel Arteta’s side looked flat and struggled to really test Nick Pope in the Newcastle goal, even after Alexander Isak continued his rich scoring form when he headed in Anthony Gordon’s pinpoint cross to put the Magpies ahead after 12 minutes
Arsenal had William Saliba back in the starting line-up after serving a red-card suspension. Defensive partner, Gabriel, had recovered from injury against Liverpool to start as well, while Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey manned the full-back positions.
Despite starting Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard in attack, it was Isak’s early goal that would prove to be the winner against the Gunners who did not look like a threat for Eddie Howe’s side.
The result is a second loss for Arsenal, now in danger of going eight points off the top depending on results elsewhere. Leaders, Manchester City, visit Bournemouth while second placed Liverpool host Brighton later on Saturday.
