An investigation is underway as Kai Havertz’s spouse has been the target of vile abuse online after Arsenal lost 5-3 on penalties to arch-rivals, Manchester United, in a third-round FA Cup tie at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Arsenal are investigating the violent threats sent to Havertz’s wife after the German striker saw his penalty against the Red Devils saved – ended up being the only player to fail to score during the shootout.

Posting to her Instagram story, Sophia Havertz shared screenshots of threatening messages sent to her Instagram account following the game, including a death threat against her unborn baby.

Warning: Some of the following messages may be triggering.

“I’m going to come to your house and slaughter your baby I’m not joking just wait,” says one of the threatening messages from a @campo.jr1 account.

“I hope you have a miscarriage,” says another message, sent from an account named @kingaimz10.

Sophia Havertz shared the screenshots alongside her own thoughts: “For anyone to think it’s okay to write something like this is so shocking to me… I hope you are ashamed of yourself. I’m not sure what even to say but please guys be more respectful. We are better than this.”

Arsenal are now consulting with a third-party investigator that specialises identifying online abusers. The online accounts have been reported to Instagram. Also, the Gunners will seek the strongest action possible against the culprits.
