The Gunners were left frustrated after playing out a goalless draw at Nottingham Forest in a Premier League match on Wednesday night, and fail to keep pace with Liverpool as another league title race starts to fade away for Arsenal.
Mikel Arteta went into the clash against Forest at City Ground seeking a reaction from his players as he remained defiant that the Gunners remain in the title race mathematically despite going 11 points behind Liverpool after the West Ham defeat.
What the Arsenal boss got instead was lots of possession with little bite. Riccardo Calafiori’s hopeful shot off the woodwork was the closest to a goal for Arsenal in the first half, while headers by Mikel Merino and Kieran Tierney in the second half was the closest in the second period.
Forest held off their visitors to claim a valuable point and remain third in the league, one point ahead of Manchester City that left North London with a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a first-half strike by Erling Haaland – the striker’s 20th in the league.
