Arsenal continued their Premier League title charge thanks to a comprehensive 5-1 victory against reigning champions Manchester City at the Emirates on Sunday.

The Cityzens had been unbeaten in their last six Premier League games heading into this tie, but they were no match for an inspired Arsenal side who knew nothing short of a win could jeopardize their title aspirations.

Skipper Martin Odegaard scored the opener after just 103 seconds. City defender John Stones made a pass to the already-marked Manuel Akanji, who was robbed off the ball by Leandro Trossard before Kai Havertz picked out Odegaard who then slotted home from 10 yards.

The Cityzens levelled 10 minutes after the interval through Erling Haaland off an assist from Savinho, as the Norwegian netted his 25th goal in all competitions this season.

But the Gunners didn’t have to wait for long to retake the lead which they did minutes later. Thomas Partey capitalised on Phil Foden’s poor pass and his long-range shot took a deflection off John Stones and into the net to restore Arsenal’s lead.

Teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly’s also scored his first Arsenal goal while late further efforts from Kai Havertz and Ethan Nwaneri put the icing on the cake as the Gunners moved to within six points of Liverpool.

Meanwhile, City have now failed to win any of their last four league meetings with Arsenal.
