Andy Murray has been forced to withdraw from the singles event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and barely 48 hours after announcing the tennis event would be his last competitive outing.
The three-time Grand Slam champion and two-time Olympic gold medallist had just returned to fitness from a surgery which saw him miss out saying proper goodbyes on the grass court of Wimbledon earlier this summer.

His withdrawal has now dashed hopes of doing so on the clay court of Roland Garros where the tennis event of Paris 2024 will take place although he will take part in the doubles event with partner Dan Evans.
Murray first won Olympic gold in front of a boisterous home crowd during the London 2012 Games, going on to defend the title four years later in Brazil at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
