Filipino wildcard Alexandra Eala recorded the biggest win of her young career, as she knocked out five-time major champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets to advance into the semi-finals of the Miami Open.
The 19 year-old teenager was in blistering form, breaking her opponent’s serve eight times as she stunned an out-of-sorts Swiatek 6-2, 7-5 to reach the last-four.
Eala has now beaten three Grand Slam champions in Jelena Ostapenko, Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek on her way to a dream fairytale run at the Miami Open.
She will take on fourth seed Jessica Pegula in the semi-finals after the American defeated Britain’s Emma Raducanu in three sets.
Alexandra Eala is only the third wildcard to reach the Miami Open semi-finals since the tournament’s inception in 1985 and she is guaranteed to break into the Top 100 for the first time when the latest WTA rankings are released next week.
