Top seed Alexander Zverev has been knocked out of the Madrid Open, following a shock straight sets defeat to Francisco Cerundolo of Argentina on Tuesday.
Play at Caja Magica was suspended on Monday in the Spanish capital after the electronic line-calling system and scoreboards went down due to a power blackout which affected the entire country.
Electricity was restored to the venue on Tuesday morning, though, as fans witnessed the German fail to convert a single break point on his way to a 7-5, 6-3 loss to the 20th-ranked Cerundolo.
Earlier in the day, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov converted his third match-point to beat Jacob Fearnley of Great Britain 6-4 7-6 to reach the quarter-finals.
Both players were in action 24 hours earlier (Monday) before action was halted due to a nationwide power cut, and they resumed their match on Tuesday after Iga Swiatek’s three-set win over Diana Shnaider. Dimitrov will take on Canada’s Gabriel Diallo next, who defeated Britain’s Cameron Norrie 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Elsewhere, Jack Draper reached the round of 16 at the Madrid Open after his Italian opponent Matteo Berrettini retired injured.
The world number six had won the opening set 7-6 in a tie-breaker after 57 minutes, before Berrettini withdrew from the contest after picking up an abdominal problem. Draper will face American Tommy Paul in the last 16.
