Ghana’s Black Stars are now on the brink of missing out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after falling to a 2-0 loss to Sudan at the Benina Martyrs Stadium on Tuesday.
Following a goalless first half which saw Ghana dominate possession, Sudan settled matters with two goals in five second half minutes to go one step closer to AFCON 2025 and leave Ghana sweating on their qualification hopes.
The result leaves Ghana still without a win after four matches in Group F of the qualification series, sitting in third place with only two points and needing to win the remaining games against Niger Republic and Angola.
Even in the scenario Ghana get those wins, all Sudan need to edge Otto Addo’s men to an AFCON 2025 qualification ticket is a win or draw in either of their remaining two matches.
Meanwhile, Group F leaders, Angola, need not worry about permutations after a 1-0 win at Niger Republic saw the Pelancras Negras seal qualification to AFCON 2025 with two matches to spare.
Also through to the finals taking place in Morocco next December are former champions, Cameroon and Algeria. The Indomitable Lions booked their spot with a 1-0 win at Kenya while the Desert Warriors secured same result at Togo.
