Atalanta’s in-form Nigerian star, Ademola Lookman, has put the Italian club’s good run of form down to a handful of attributes following a 2-0 win over VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Following a goalless first half at the MPHArena in Germany, Lookman scored the opening goal early in the second half before substitute, Nicolo Zaniolo, sealed the result in the closing stages to send Gian Piero Gasperini’s side up to ninth in the Champions League table.

And speaking with the media after the win, Lookman said, “Yes, it is a very important game for us to win tonight… takes us up to eight points, so we needed to win. Any way I can help the team – whether attacking or defensive. I like to score goals so it’s always good to do this.”

The CAF Player of the Year award favourite added, “The team put in a top performance defensively also, we showed we were strong, compact, and solid together. That’s the most important.”

Atalanta return to Serie A action this weekend when they host Maduka Okoye’s Udinese in Bergamo, and Lookman says the team will remain focused and take each game as it comes.

“We continue to look forward to our games, we have a tough run of games against top teams. Champions League is never easy. We are happy to be here and take every game as they come.”
