Super Eagles of Nigeria and Atalanta star, Ademola Lookman, has been awarded the Men’s Player of the Year prize at the 2024 CAF Awards on Monday night.
At a colourful ceremony held in Marrakesh, Morocco, Lookman claimed the award ahead of South Africa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and Achraf Hakimi of Morocco.
He takes over from fellow Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, who won the award in the 2023 edition of the ceremony.
The recognition by CAF caps a memorable year for Lookman, whose historic hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen gave Atalanta their first European silverware.
He also starred for Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals to help the Super Eagles reach the final before losing narrowly to the hosts, Ivory Coast, in a keenly contested final.
