AC Milan’s new boss, Paulo Fonseca, has praised Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze for his performance against Spanish giants Real Madrid.
The Serie A giants earned a deserving 1-0 friendly win over the reigning UEFA Champions League winners in their pre-season tour in the United States of America.
Chukwueze scored the only goal of the game, coming after another stunning performance against Premier League giants Manchester City. The Nigerian international bagged two assists as the Italian side claimed a 3-2 victory.
The 25-year-old failed to hit the ground running when he was signed by Milan last summer but has been showing glimpses of improvement this summer.
In an interview after the game, Fonseca admitted that Chukwueze struggled for playing time last season under Stefano Poili but has been more confident since arriving at the club.
“Chukwuze is more confident. Last season he didn’t play much,” the Portuguese top man was quoted by Goal. “When a new coach arrives, it’s always like this: The players want to show off. I’m happy for Chukwueze; he’s doing very well.”
The Super Eagles star is taking pre-season seriously as it could be the only lifeline he has in knocking Christian Pulisic out of AC Milan’s starting XI in the upcoming season.
