Share:

The summer transfer window usually opens on July 1st and closes on August 31st but this year, the Premier League has a head start as they opened their window on June 14. The rest of Europe’s top five leagues will open their summer transfer window on July 1st. Premier League clubs are already getting busy in the transfer market; bringing in new players and selling off some. In this article, we update you on the latest transfer moves, deals, and trends so far.

LA LIGA

REAL MADRID

Kylian Mbappe

Probably, the biggest transfer news of the summer is Kylian Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid. It was not much of a shocker though as it’s been a long time coming. Mbappe’s move to Real Madrid has been in the media for the last three seasons. He almost completed a move to the Spanish giants in 2022 before he decided to renew his contract at PSG but this time it’s real. Mbappe has moved to Real Madrid on a free transfer after his contract with PSG expired. He has been officially announced by the club and next season he will be playing in La Liga. Undoubtedly, getting Kylian Mbappe for free is some mean business by Florentino Perez, and with the exit of top players like Toni Kroos, Nacho Fernandez, and Joselu they can easily balance the books and even end up with a net profit from the transfer window.

The Brazilian International Endrick is also set to join Los Blancos this summer. The deal for the player has been completed since last season but he will officially join the club this summer.

Real Madrid are also looking to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich and Bundesliga Player of the Season Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen. Lille Defender Leny Yoro is also on Madrid’s radar and they are currently leading the race for him.

Toni Kroos has since announced that he will retire from professional football after the Euros. He has already played his last match for Real Madrid at the Champions League finals; his case is closed.

Madrid has confirmed the exit of their captain Nacho Fernandez this summer. The defender has already signed a two-year contract with Saudi club Al Qadisah.

Champions League hero Joselu will also be leaving the club this summer. The player has already agreed with Qatari club Al Gharafa for a two-year deal with the option of a further season.

Another player who may be leaving Real Madrid is Rafa Marin. The player is being discussed for a move to Napoli with a buyback clause for Madrid.

BARCELONA

The biggest change at Barca this summer was the signing of Hansi Flick as manager. They have not been very busy in the transfer market but Flick has identified some players he would like to sign. It has been rumored that Flick wants Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich at Camp Nou.

Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams is also on Barca’s transfer shortlist but the player who just signed a new contract with Bilbao said he is happy where he is. The Spanish forward would improve Barca’s attack if they can sign him but as of this moment, no contact has been reported between the player and the club.

The only confirmed business from Barca as of this moment is Marc Guiu who is close to completing a move to Premier League side Chelsea. Verbal agreements have already been reached with the player and Chelsea is prepared to pay his £6m release clause. The deal is set and will most likely be completed by the end of the window.

PREMIER LEAGUE

Premier League clubs are already busy in the market. Chelsea sacked Mauricio Pochettino and replaced him with Enzo Maresca from Leicester City. The London club has completed the signing of center-back Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer from Fulham. The defender rejected a new contract from Fulham and a bid from Newcastle for Chelsea whose project appeals to him. Marc Guiu is on his way from Barca to Chelsea as well.

The Blues have also completed the signing of Brazilian forward Willian Estevao from Palmeiras. The deal cost Chelsea a total of £61m; £34m in fixed fees and £27m in add-ons. The player is set to join Chelsea in 2025 after the World Cup.

Crystal Palace midfielder Michael Olise was also a transfer target for Chelsea this summer and they appeared to be leading the race to sign him. Unfortunately, the deal broke down at the last minute and now the player is set to join Bayern Munich.

Earlier in the season, Chelsea reached a mutual agreement with Thiago Silva to terminate his contract allowing him to join his boyhood club Fluminese on a free transfer. The biggest exit from Chelsea at the moment is Ian Maatsen who has almost completed a move from Chelsea to Aston Villa for £37.5m. The transfer window is far from over and many more players might be coming in and leaving Chelsea by the end of August.

Other Premier League clubs are not yet very active in the transfer market. Arsenal still has Victor Gyokeres as a transfer target but there has been no news on that end so far. Manchester City have not made any deals in the transfer market either.

BUNDESLIGA

Michael Olise

In the Bundesliga, Bayern is close to completing a deal for Michael Olise from Crystal Palace. They are also interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah who is also keen on the move. The Olise move would cost Bayern Munich around £60m and would potentially keep the player at the club till 2029. Olise is keen on the move and has already agreed personal terms with the German club. Leipzig has also signed a new contract with Benjamin Sesko who has decided to stay at the club despite interest from other top clubs.

SERIE A

In Serie A, Napoli has appointed Antonio Conte as manager while Thiago Motta will now manage Juventus. Osimhen’s exit from Napoli is imminent but his destination is not as clear yet. The player has had interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, and even PSG but none of the deals has been completed. It was reported that PSG was at an advanced stage in the negotiations earlier in the year but nothing is concrete quite yet.

Michele Di Gregorio

Juventus have completed the signing of goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio from Monza. Di Gregorio who was voted as the best goalkeeper in the Serie A last season was signed for £18m and is set to be announced in July.

LIGUE 1

PSG are warming up in the transfer market. They have signed Russian goalkeeper Matvey Safonov in a £20m deal from Krasnodar and sent Lyon a bid for Ryan Cherki. Liepzig Loanee Xavi Simons is also keen on leaving PSG at the end of the summer amidst interest from Barcelona and RB Liepzig who want to sign the player on a permanent deal.

The transfer window is far from over and will get busier after the completion of the Euros and the Copa America. Which transfer announcement are you excited to see?
